New Messages App for OS X, you can now send iMessage to any iOS users on your Mac

Mountain Lion

Apple have just announced Mountain Lion OS, which will be coming to us pretty soon. It will be a refresh with some very cool updates, almost integrating iOS into Mac OS.

Messages

One of the update is an App – Messages.  Messages is almost like iMessage in iOS, but more powerful. In Messages App, you can not only send unlimited iMessages to any iOS/Mac users, you can now also chat via gtalk, Yahoo! Messager or even Jabber.  But of course, the killer feature is iMessage.

Send iMessage to anyone holding on to iOS Devices via your Mac

So what does this means? It means you can virtually reply messages to anyone who is using iPhone via your Mac, you don’t even need to talk your iPhone to do that. How cool is that? Ever seen the launch of Whatsapp, iMessages and so on, I have been thinking, why am I still restricted in replying to my friends via my iPhone since I already have a Mac infront of me. Going back to iPhone to reply a message honestly breaks my workflow.

What I think about Messages

With Apple’s new Message Client on Mac, I can reply to any iMessage I receive, I can even do FaceTime, send photos and video over to any iOS devices! How cool is that? I have been testing it for awhile, it has been pretty good, although I have encounter some issues off and on, but it is still in beta.

You can download beta Messages App now from Apple’s website and give it a try now!

New Mac Mini faster but dropped optical drive

Together with the launch of Mac OS X Lion, 2 new Apple hardware were refreshed too. Mac Mini and Macbook Air. Of course Macbook Air have gotten most of the limelight being the newest addition to the Mac Family line. Many will think that Macbook Air will be the future of laptops, and I totally agree. But will Mac Mini be the future of Mac Xserve?

Future of Mac Mini

The new Mac Mini 2011 has something missing, yes the optical drive. No more optical drive for Mac Mini from now onwards. Mac Mini has never been in spotlight of Mac family line, due to the lack of everything, no screen, no keyboards, no mouse no nothing comes together with Mac Mini. But this is the kind of machine you would like to be siting in your house. Quietly working to keep up with the iMacs, Macbook Airs, Macbook Pros, iPad and iPhone in your household. It will be your house’s Xserve if you want to put it in this way.

What is needed in a home server?

So what is needed as a home server?

  • Low power, but powerful enough for household.
  • Occupy very little space, but has the connections needed.
  • All in one little machine, able to backup, serve music and video to home entertainment center
  • Lots of space for backups or to serve files
  • Quiet

And yes, 2011 Mac Mini have all of it. Now having optical drive removed for all Mac Minis, you will have 1 extra slot for additional Hard disk.

Haven you gotten the new Mac Mini 2011? Tell us what you feel about it!

Real Mac OS Lion’s Gestures [Funny]

Have you upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion? If so, are the gestures above very familiar to you? I’m sure all this gestures drawn by joyoftech are over-exaggerated, but I’m sure some of the less techy users might face one of the few issues drawn.

Huge Changes, less forceful by Apple

In this OS update, although lots of things have changed and Apple introduced a few new gestures too, but most of them are optional. Things like the “natural” scrolling which invert your scrolling can be switch around. Scrollbarless windows can be switched to always show scrollbar. Thus I feel that Apple is quite soft in Lion’s approach this time round.

This might be due to the growing market of Macs, lots of new Mac users, thus changes cannot be too forceful, else they might have too much bad comments/review.

Have you updated to Mac OS Lion? What’s your feedback on it? Tell us!

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is finally out!

King has arrived!

Finally Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has arrived yesterday! It has been 2 years since Apple launched Snow Leopard. This update to Mac OS X might be one of the largest looking at the number of functions changed.

Price is King.

Although Mac OS Lion have tons of updates and changes, but Apple priced this massive OS update at only USD$29.99! Price is king, incredible price for such a nice update to your Mac! I’m still in progress of updating to Lion, thus I will only post my review of Mac OS Lion after a few days of usage! Stay tuned!

Update your Mac OS to Lion now via Apple App Store

Mac OS Lion just $29.99 coming in July!

There are more than 250 new features that will be on Mac OS Lion which will be coming to the Mac App Store by July. Yes, only Mac App Store. So we won’t be seeing Mac OS Lion in boxes in Apple store.

So all existing  Snow Leopard users can download Lion via Mac App Store. It will be around a 4gb download, which is pretty small, and Mac App Store download’s speed is pretty fast even for areas outside US, like in Singapore. What’s cool is you will be able to just purchase 1 copy of Lion and install on all authorized Mac, which will be at least 5 Macs! Pretty cool right?

You know what is better? The price! Just for USD $29.99, you can get Mac OS lion for your family. I can’t wait for July to come!

New Mail.app for Mac OS Lion

New Mail.app

Yes, Mac OS Lion will be getting a new Mail Client. It even gotten a new icon, which have a metallic looks. Overview of the Mail.app seems to be very very similar to what we have seen on iPad’s mail client. They want to have a more generic looks and feel so users will feel very familiar when they use mail on iPad and Macs.

Mail.app will have a conversation view for emails. Yes, same look and feel of iPad’s mail.

Photo Booth in Lion track your face!

This is quite cool, something that we have not seen in Apple’s Lion OS intro. Now Photo booth in Lion will track your face and do on the fly effect on your photo/video! Pretty cool

This is much better than the photo booth on iPad 2. But I hope this will go to iPad 2! 🙂 Let’s wait and see.

Steve Jobs will be at WWDC annoucing iCloud, iOS 5 and Lion on June 6

Steve Jobs announcing iCloud in WWDC 2011

Apple has just announced that their CEO, Steve Jobs will be taking the stage to talk about their new iCloud Service, iOS 5 and Mac OS Lion. Below is what they have sent to developers:

Apple® CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS® X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch®; and iCloud®, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering.

Pretty packed WWDC 2011 for Apple. But why did Apple announce to the whole world about iCloud just a few days away from WWDC? Apple is always secretive and like to give us surprises. So are we going to get even more surprises from Apple?

Predication for Apple’s WWDC 2011

iCloud will be Apple’s newest cloud service, which might comprise of iTunes Cloud Streaming, iDisk(or a possible rename?), Cloud App Syncing, Monthly iTunes music Subscription. Apple has been building this massive Datacenter, which will most likely be supporting iCloud. So with such a huge cloud datacenter, it will not just be iTunes, I have a feeling it will be much more.

  • Monthly Music Subscription – Users will be able to pay a monthly fee and have music as all-you-can-listen package
  • iTunes Cloud Streaming – Users’ existing music will be automatically upload to the iTunes Cloud
  • iDisk fully integrated in Mac and iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. So files can just be transfer via iCloud without going through 3rd party apps
  • App syncing – All Apps that users purchase will be stored in the cloud, but not only that. All the save games data, information will be stored in cloud thus be able to sync up throughout all the devices sign in with the same account

Above are just some prediction, and hopefully we get even more surprises from Apple! Stay Tuned and we will be reporting about WWDC 2011.

What we might see in Apple’s WWDC2011

Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2011 is just round the corner. Apple for the past few WWDC has been very focus on showing and telling the developers what is up and coming for the year. But they also did not forget the consumers, and always take the chance to introduce new products.

So what will we see in this year’s WWDC?

  • iOS 5 – Yes, Finally we will have a preview of what iOS 5 will be. It might be more tabletish, having more multi-tasking features, more features to make use of the screen real estate of iPad.
  • Lion OS – Lion has been one of the main focus for the past 2 conference Apple held. This will be the final one, showing us the final product of what Lion will look like.
  • iPhone 4S – I think iPhone 4S will not ship so soon, because White iPhone 4 just launched not long ago, but who knows Apple might surprise us with a new iPhone
  • Macbook Air – MBA has been a success, and it is close to its refresh period. Thus we might see a Macbook Air with Thunderbolt and Sandy Bridge
  • Mac Pro – Apple recently killed XServe, and Mac Pro is the “replacement”. I’m thinking Apple will redesign Mac Pro to be “mountable” so as to better used in Data Center

Let’s hope we will have a exciting WWDC2011!
