Difference between GSM and CDMA iPhone details by Apple

Apple launched CDMA iPhone 4

Apple after a long long wait, has finally launch CDMA iPhone on Verizon (US Carrier). Of course there will be plans to release CDMA phones to countries like China, Japan, South Korea.

Difference between CDMA and GSM iPhone 4

Since CDMA and GSM are very different network, thus there are slight difference on how iPhone operates. Apple just released a page on it for users to reference.

Some of the major call function difference are:

  • Call forwarding
  • Call waiting
  • Caller ID
  • Conference calls
  • Inserting pauses when dialing
  • Hold

iOS 4.3 is coming to us by Feb 28th?

iOS 4.3 has been rumored to be available to all by Feb 14th, but it did not. The newest rumored date is 28.02.2011, because of the trial end date on The Daily App. Yes, it is not really relevant, but it is a date we can look forward to.

What are we getting on iOS 4.3?

Of course the top most interesting feature we will be getting on iOS 4.3 is the Wireless Mobile HotSpot! Meaning you can broadcast a wireless hotspot with your iPhone or iPad to any other device like your Macbook or iPod Touch. It will be very useful with you don’t have your iPhone cable with you, but you need your iPod Touch to access the web without Wifi in the area.

Please note that if you are holding a Verizon phone, you will experience your hotspot to lose connective if there are incoming calls.

iPhone Nano is really coming?

Rumors is high that Apple is planning to launch a new series of iPhone, iPhone “Nano” which is smaller and more affordable alongside the main stream iPhone 4. Wall Street Journal also reported that MobileMe will be getting a major revamp in June, which will allow users to not only store data, but most data and media in the the cloud.

This revamp of the MobileMe will allow Apple to reduce the size of the memory in the upcoming iPhone “nano” which will only have memory just enough the buffer data from the cloud. It works like what AppleTV is currently doing, having just enough memory to buffer the streams from cloud. When iPhone users buy media from iTunes, it will be kept in Apple’s Cloud, and can be stream from the cloud like which they have recently bought over.

Of course, all this are just rumors for now!

Verizon’s CDMA iPhone 4 actually supports GSM too!

iPhone 4 (Verizon) is already Dual CDMA/GSM “Ready”

It is rumored that iPhone 5 might be a dual CDMA/GSM iPhone, meaning you can use it on a CDMA network like Verizon (US), and also use it on GSM network like AT&T (US) or Singtel (Singapore). But in fact Verizon’s iPhone 4 is already armed with Dual CDMA/GSM Qualcomm MDM600 chip, however, due to how it is built, you can’t slot in a Sim Card into Verizon’s iPhone 4. Nevertheless, it means that Apple is definately putting dual chips on the coming iPhone 5, and it might be able to work both on CDMA and GSM network with just a single iPhone model.

Verizon’s CDMA and GSM (Rest of the World) iPhone 4 Comparison (Verizon left)

Overall, the looks and feel of both Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 is very similar, almost identical! Of course it is the doing of Apple, so as to not to confuse anyone. Most of the internal parts are the same, same processor chip, rams and housing.

But there are some slight difference:

  • Battery is the same 5.25 watt hour capacity, but it is a newer model and weigh lesser, from 26.9 gram to 25.6 gram
  • Sim Slot is gone
  • The Qualcomm PM8028 chip works in conjunction the Qualcomm MDM6600 to provide wireless data connection to the phone
  • The Qualcomm MDM6600 chip supports HSPA+ data rates of up to 14.4 Mbps and CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev. B
  • External Antenna are slightly different when assemble
  • Vibrator is quieter, softer feel and makes a better sound when vibrating on table

Have you gotten your Verizon’s iPhone, do you feel anything else better? Feedback by leaving us a comment.

GreenPois0n for iOS 4.2.1’s Loader do not have cydia, Solution here!

GreenPosi0n untethered Jailbroken, but can’t install Cydia via Loader

I’m not sure about you guys, but after I do the untethered jailbreak with GreenPosi0n for iOS 4.2.1, GreenPois0n’s Loader did not have Cydia. Meaning I can’t install Cydia! So how can you install Cydia after jailbreaking with GreenPosi0n for iOS 4.2.1?

Redsn0w will fix the Cydia Issue on GreenPois0n

The solution is after you have jailbroken with GreenPosi0n, install Cydia with latest Redsn0w 0.9.6! Don’t worry about it as your jailbreak will still be untethered, but you will be able to get Cydia on your iPhone rather than wait for GreenPois0n to update their software, which we don’t know how long they will take.

Steps to jailbreak and install Cydia:

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as per previous blog post on Greenposi0n untethered jailbreak.

Step 2: Check if your Loader is working, if you can’t install Cydia with Loader, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Download Redsn0w 0.9.6 here

Step 4: Open up Redsn0w, select the ipa for your iDevice.

Step 5: Check on the “Install Cydia” option, and proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 6: After Redsn0w is done, wait for the reboot and there you have Cydia installed, plus have your iPhone untethered Jailbreak.

I have successfully installed Cydia via the steps above, let me know if you face other issue with the new GreenPois0n jailbreak.

3DBoard – Makes your HomeScreen on iPhone 3D without glasses

Nintendo  launched their 3DS not too long ago, but do you know that iPhone’s hardware can actually have the same 3D effect we have seen on 3DS?

3DBoard, a cydia app, allows you to view your iPhone’s HomeScreen in 3D without glasses, with the help of Accelerometer and Gyroscope. By sensing the turning and titling of iPhone, it project different image of your homescreen, to project a 3D view of it. This technology actually remind of me of WII 3D hack that we have seen quite a few years ago(video below the 3DBoard video if you are interested!)

3DBoard is now available in Cydia App store for $3

Check out the demo video below to have a feel of it!

Apple’s Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 Ad! [Video]

It is really kind of cool for Apple to put up an ad like this, having both Verizon and AT&T as its partners. This is the way that Apple is showing that they are really not bias towards any carriers in US.

Let’s hope that the introduction of Verizon as a new carrier will benefit all AT&T, Verizon and Apple iPhone users, as it will really lessen AT&T trashing by iPhone user. iPhone users will have a better and faster network.

Check out the commercial from Apple:

10 Billion downloads from Apple App Store!

10 Billion downloaded Apps from Apple’s App Store is a huge milestone for them. Why? World Population on Earth is only around 6.8billions, 10 Billion 40% more than our world population! Just from a App Store from a company! Apple’s App Store is really a hit, currently holding 300,000 apps with 10 billions downloads.

Cheers to Apple and cheers to the 10 billionth downloader who got her $10,000 iTunes gift card, she can really download apps like there is no tomorrow!
