Apple repairs damaged devices in Japan Disasters for free!

Remember when Japan was hit with Tsunami, Apple Japan changed their main page to dedicate to the victims and did not display their newly launched iPad 2. Later on they help raise funds through iTunes for Red Cross, let victims charge their iPads and iPhones in the store and even let them surf web with their WiFi and even their Macs in stores.

Lots of respect to Apple Japan in organizing so much for the victims of Japan Disasters, and no they did not stop. Now they are offering free repairs to damaged devices from Apple at no cost for all victims of the Tsunami. Honestly this news touched my heart and I love them even more for the effort that they put in.

Enlarge your iPad’s disk space with Seagate’s GoFlex Satellite

Segate GoFlex Satellite wireless storage for iOS devices!

Seagate is launching a brand new range of GoFlex called Satellite, a battery powered mobile hard drive with Wi-Fi which you can connect up with your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It is reported that the disk’s standby battery life can last up to 25 hours or 4 hours of continuous video streaming. What’s cool is that you can still hook up your hard disk via USB 3.0 incase the battery went flat.

Apple’s accessories currently do not really support USB 3.0, although you can still connect via USB 2.0. But imagine now you have a 500GB hard disk that you can bring around with you, copying files, videos, music and photos from laptops to it. When you want to watch video or listen to music, you can just stream it from your portable hard disk via Wi-Fi. To be honest, it is very cool and useful.

White iPhone 4 is slightly thicker than Black!

Yes, quite a few new owners of White iPhone 4 mentioned that their phone is slightly thicker than black iPhone 4. Look at the above picture, and we can clearly see that it is really thicker, but just by a slight. All iPhone 4 cases are reported to fit nicely to white iPhone 4, so you won’t have to worry about it.

I think white iPhone 4’s plastic is slightly thicker might be due to the light leak issue due to the white case and the iPhone 4’s Flash. Hopefully this solved the light leak issue, because I don’t mind a slightly thicker iPhone 4 than light leak photos from my iPhone

This is how my next iPhone looks like? [Picture]

This is my next iPhone 5?

You might be new to thisismynext, but no, they are actually started up by previous Engadget team, Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miler and more. I’m kind of a fan of them, and this is their new temporary home. Put that aside for now, they have came out with the above iPhone 5 mock-up based on some source which they think is quite reliable.

Yes, it might be a totally new design, below are the summarize points:

  • Totally New Design, or not…: iPhone 4 have gotten quite a few bad comments on antenna and easily broken glass. So we might not be surprise Apple might wanna do a redesign of it.. But if you look closely at the mock-up, it looks very similar to iPod Touch’s design… So are we getting a similar to iPod Touch iPhone 5?
  • Gesture Sensitive Home Button: It is reported that Home Button will be bigger and will take in gestures, this is really quite new… I’m not really sure what kind of gestures it might understand. Swiping? Pushing? Holding on? Who knows?
  • No Bezel: I’m quite surprise bezel is removed! It means that Apple’s manufacturing technology is very high, else it might be very hard for them to achieve.
  • Larger Screen: Of course, without the bezel, we will be getting a larger screen at 3.7inch.
  • Inductive Charging: Honestly, I doubt this, inductive charging are not very environmental friendly. It wastes quite alot of extra energy to charge the same iPhone, so I doubt it as Apple is always looking at how green can they go.
  • Hidden earpiece & mouthpiece: Both of it are behind the glass, and not visible, given it’s Apple it is highly possible. I like it.
  • NFC: Maybe or may not come
  • Global radio Chips: Supports both CDMA and GSM

How do you think about the next iPhone you are getting? I think it is not bad in hardware design, how I’m more interested in seeing what we will be getting on iOS 5. Hope to get something totally new.

How GREEN is our iPhones?

To celebrate Earth day, geekaphone created a very well done infographics to show how green is our iPhones. To be honest, I feel that Apple is already one of the most environmental conscious company around. Most of their products have 5 star on green-ness. If you look at the info-graphics, you will see that Apple is still trying their best make their next product greener, look at iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, iPhone 4 emit 18% less CO2.

Take a look at the inforgraphics from geekaphone:

Apple is tracking our location via iPhone, but why? [Video]

It is now confirmed that Apple is storing location informations of every iPhone users. Peter Warden and Alasdair Allan have found out that iOS have a database storing information of the location of iPhone and is taking a snap of the location almost every minute.

The picture which you have seen on top, is the location information store by iPhone from one of the creator of iPhoneTracker, who have create an application to let you import the location data that your iPhone is storing and displaying in a map format.

I have downloaded the software, and have load the map with my location information, and it is just pure amazing. It really did record down my whole Taiwan Trip on Oct 2010 and the more recent US trip on March 2011

Taiwan Trip 2010:

My recent US Trip on March 2011:

Interesting yeah? I have no idea, Apple can map my journey so well, it can almost be used as a proof if I ever have to show my location at any point of time. But why is Apple doing this? All this location information did not expire after almost 1 year. Why do Apple need to keep location information of their users for such a long time?

Apple have not gave us any information or reply on this issue.

Turn your iPhone 4 into a 3D Scanner! [Video]

An App can turn your iPhone 4 into a 3D scanner! This is very amazing! With just Trimentional App on your iPhone 4, you will be able to scan anything into 3D format, and can be printed out via a 3D printer just like what we see below!

Of course, with just iPhone and an app, it is not possible to do a super good quality 3D model, but having a 3D scanner on your palm everywhere you go, this is just amazing.

64gb White iPhone 4 Leaked! iOS 5, Expose and Facebook Integration! [Video]

64Gb White iPhone 4’s videos are leaked once again from Vietnam! What’s interesting is that it is not just iPhone 4 in white, but it is actually running on a prototype iOS 5.

So what is new in iOS 5?

  • New Task switching screen which look very similar to Mac’s Expose
  • New Folder UI, when you create folder, it is now full screen(Which I don’t really like)
  • Spotlight search in the tasking switching expose screen
  • Facebook Integration, if you look closely at the 2nd video, there is a Facebook setting.
