Kevin Rose’s Oink – Let you rate the things around you

Kevin Rose, who started digg and now on Milk finally launch their first iPhone app Oink.

Oink is a unlike other location based apps like Foursquare and Yelp, they don’t rate a place but the things in the location. Things like tea in the tea house, noodles in the chinese restaurants or even coolest roller coaster in the theme park. Users of Oink will not only see rating from strangers but also from their friends if they ever been to the place.

It looks like it will be an very useful app in time to come, especially for people like me who will be lost when I first enter a restaurants and don’t know what is good and what should I order. By checking out Oink, I will know what my friends have tried and rated or just everyone who have rated.

Download Oink App for free in App Store now!

iCloud.com is now live!

Apple’s iCloud.com has went live!

One of the newest feature for iOS 5 is the integration with iCloud. iCloud is not just a sync service by Apple, it is more like a magical storage area which will be shared between all your iPhone, iPod, iPad and Macs/PC. When you take a photo on your iPhone 4, in just seconds, you can browse the photo on your iPad and iPhone.

iCloud.com is now live, it is the web apps of iCloud services like Find my iPhone, Mail, Contact and Calendar. If you have an Apple account, you can login to iCloud.com right now, but the only service that is available is Find my iPhone. Other services like Contact, Mail and Calendar will only be activated when you upgrade your iOS to iOS 5 when it launches.

You can access iCloud.com right now, or read up on iCloud.com’s help site.

AppleCares+ now covers accidental damages!

Somehow I feel this news is as exciting as Apple’s new iPhone 4S. AppleCare+ for iPhone now covers up to 2 accidental damages on top of the usual AppleCare warranty. But you have to pay Apple additional USD$49 for each accident on top of the $99 AppleCare+. Although it seems to have a catch, but I’m pretty sure it is still much cheaper than you replacing a brand new iPhone, if you accidentally dropped your iPhone and smashed the back.

Here’s the full Description:

Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and 90 days of telephone technical support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee. With AppleCare+ for iPhone, Apple experts can help troubleshoot issues over the phone or at an Apple Retail Store. They’ll answer questions about iOS, Apple iPhone apps such as Mail, iMessage, and Calendar, and help you solve interconnectivity issues between your iPhone and Mac or PC. And if your iPhone needs service under the plan, Apple technical support representatives can even set up a repair during the same call.

Let’s talk iPhone. October 4 2011

Let’s talk iPhone.

Apple have finally sent out invitation to media for their October 4th Event – Let’s talk iPhone. Without much question, this event will be heavily focus on iPhone and iOS. The event will be held at 10am PT at Apple’s HQ Cupertino campus in California. Seems like most rumors got it correct.

Hardware Upgrades

So will we be seeing Dual-Core A5 Processer, 8mega-pixel camera, 1GB of ram? It seems to be a reasonable upgrade to me. A5 has been on iPad 2, and it really improves graphics performance by quite abit, 1GB ram is double on what we have now on iPhone 4, which will serve well for multi-tasking. iPhone 4’s 5mp camera is still one of the best smartphone camera around, with the upgrade to 8mp, they will point and shoot less attractive.

Talk?

Of course on iOS side, we have already seen alot of new improvement during the previous keynote, but it is rumored that Siri will be heavily integrated and will be named Assistant. Siri is a voice search technology that Apple recently acquired, so is that why it is called “Let’s talk iPhone?”

Let’s all stay tuned for the October 4 iPhone Event!

How deep Apple’s root grew into the world

Apple’s Root

Time Magazine have came out with this very informative infographic. It shows the percentage of Apple’s income stream, how different business are interlinked with Apple’s Product.

iPhone sales are 43%, Mac 20%, iPad 19% and iPod 7%, I feel iPad will be taking over Mac’s sales very soon, and iPod will slowly die off.

Apple promotes Eddy Cue to SVP of Internet Software and Services

Apple promoted Eddy to the “i-Man”

Tim Cook have just promoted Eddy Cue to Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services. Eddy Cue is no newbie, he is the key man for iTunes, App Store and iBookstore. These few products are very successful and I feel is the key to the success of iPhone and iPad.

So what’s new for him as SVP of Internet Software and Service? iCloud and iAds. Both of the 2 services are fairly new, and haven’t really taken off. I’m sure this 2 services are also the key services that Apple will be focusing on for the next few years.

Here a email from Tim Cook to Apple’s employee obtained by 9to5mac:

Dear team,

It is my pleasure to announce the promotion of Eddy Cue to Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services. Eddy will report to me and will serve on Apple’s executive management team. Eddy oversees Apple’s industry-leading content stores including the iTunes Store, the revolutionary App Store and the iBookstore, as well as iAd and Apple’s innovative iCloud services. He is a 22-year Apple veteran and leads a large organization of amazing people. He played a major role in creating the Apple online store in 1998, the iTunes Music Store in 2003 and the App Store in 2008.

Apple is a company and culture unlike any other in the world and leaders like Eddy get that. Apple is in their blood. Eddy and the entire executive management team are dedicated to making the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do. Please join me in congratulating Eddy on this significant and well-deserved promotion. I have worked with Eddy for many years and look forward to working with him even closer in the future.

Play game on Apple TV via iPad and use iPhone as controller! [Video]

Play games on Apple TV via iPad with iPhone controller

Joypad is very interesting app, with this app, you will be able to play iPad games on your TV via AppleTV and use your iPhone as controller! In other words, it will treat your iPad as a “console” and stream the game from iPad to AppleTV and uses your iPhone as controller.

Very cool right? It uses their special SDK and is able to stream gameplay to AppleTV via Airplay. iPhone is connected to iPad via Bluetooth, thus you will be able to as controller. But the amount of games support this SDK is quite limited. You can see the list of supported games here.

You will be able to download Joypad here.
