iReview – Worlddictionary, Instant Translation & Search

WorldDictionary

One issue on dictionary is the time you take to enter into your dictionary app, this is even true for words that are not easily type in for example chinese words. So normally I will be discourage to search up dictionary to know the meaning of the word because of the effort that I will need to put in.

Multi-Language Supports, Instant Translation

Penpower Technology got me to review their Worlddictionary iPhone/iPad app. It is an instant translation app, so what this apps does is instantly translate any words that it can recognize via your iPhone/iPad camera. This will not only help you save effort in typing in the word to find out the meaning, it will also help you when you don’t even know how to enter in the word.

It supports multiple languages, like English, Chinese, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and more. So I don’t have to switch to any other apps, almost like a one app fits all dictionary.

Overview

After using this app for some time, I found out the on screen recognition software is pretty accurate, I don’t much mistake in the app, and the translation is instant. The only issue I found out is that for some languages, it need data network to lookup for the translation. This might be only issue, as we will normally use translation apps when we are overseas traveling and might not have data connectivity at that point of time.

You can get Worldictionary in Apple App Store @ $7.99

New Messages App for OS X, you can now send iMessage to any iOS users on your Mac

Mountain Lion

Apple have just announced Mountain Lion OS, which will be coming to us pretty soon. It will be a refresh with some very cool updates, almost integrating iOS into Mac OS.

Messages

One of the update is an App – Messages.  Messages is almost like iMessage in iOS, but more powerful. In Messages App, you can not only send unlimited iMessages to any iOS/Mac users, you can now also chat via gtalk, Yahoo! Messager or even Jabber.  But of course, the killer feature is iMessage.

Send iMessage to anyone holding on to iOS Devices via your Mac

So what does this means? It means you can virtually reply messages to anyone who is using iPhone via your Mac, you don’t even need to talk your iPhone to do that. How cool is that? Ever seen the launch of Whatsapp, iMessages and so on, I have been thinking, why am I still restricted in replying to my friends via my iPhone since I already have a Mac infront of me. Going back to iPhone to reply a message honestly breaks my workflow.

What I think about Messages

With Apple’s new Message Client on Mac, I can reply to any iMessage I receive, I can even do FaceTime, send photos and video over to any iOS devices! How cool is that? I have been testing it for awhile, it has been pretty good, although I have encounter some issues off and on, but it is still in beta.

You can download beta Messages App now from Apple’s website and give it a try now!

iOS Task Management App Rush! Clear or Steps?

iOS Task Management App Showdown!

A few weeks ago, Macheist, Twitterific and Realmac Software Team have came out with a Task Management iOS App idea/Prototype/Promo Video called Clear. It is one of the most intuitive task management app I have ever seen. It almost make managing tasks a pleasure. Thus it created alot of hype and people are waiting for it to launch.

But makers of popular iOS IM client Verbs today launch a Youtube Video showing their up-coming Task Management App – Steps. It feels and looks very similar to Clear, but of course have its own taste of it.

Both of them looks very sleek and nice, and both will be launching soon. So which will you choose to purchase? And which app will win the heart of more iOS users? Let’s stay tuned and see.

For now, let’s what Clear and Steps bring to the table:

Let’s talk iPhone. October 4 2011

Let’s talk iPhone.

Apple have finally sent out invitation to media for their October 4th Event – Let’s talk iPhone. Without much question, this event will be heavily focus on iPhone and iOS. The event will be held at 10am PT at Apple’s HQ Cupertino campus in California. Seems like most rumors got it correct.

Hardware Upgrades

So will we be seeing Dual-Core A5 Processer, 8mega-pixel camera, 1GB of ram? It seems to be a reasonable upgrade to me. A5 has been on iPad 2, and it really improves graphics performance by quite abit, 1GB ram is double on what we have now on iPhone 4, which will serve well for multi-tasking. iPhone 4’s 5mp camera is still one of the best smartphone camera around, with the upgrade to 8mp, they will point and shoot less attractive.

Talk?

Of course on iOS side, we have already seen alot of new improvement during the previous keynote, but it is rumored that Siri will be heavily integrated and will be named Assistant. Siri is a voice search technology that Apple recently acquired, so is that why it is called “Let’s talk iPhone?”

Let’s all stay tuned for the October 4 iPhone Event!

Vocre instantly translate your speech from 1 language to another! [Video]

Translate your speech instantly with Vocre

Vocre, an new iOS app, can instantly translate whatever you just said to your iPhone/iPad into another language. Pretty cool right? Using Nuance technology, Vocre will be able to translate your speech but needs data connectivity.

This apps should be very useful, when you are overseas in country which you don’t speak. This will not only allow you to understand what foreigners are speaking to you, conversation can flow via this app. But of cause the down side is the need of data network, which will most likely cost a bomb.

Demo Video below:

Vorce is free, and will be free for the first 10 translation. After which $0.99 will be charge for 10 translation and $8.99 for 100 translation. Try Vorce for free at iTunes App Store.

iCloud – Free, Calendar, Documents, Photo Stream and iTunes for iOS and Macs

iCloud is free

iCloud is free. This is the greatest news I have heard so far in WWDC 2011. Why? Because it is free for both iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and even your Macs. Now we have a fully integrated cloud system running through all our iOS Devices and Macs.

Calendar on iCloud

Calendar will be sync to iCloud, so all your calendar data on your Macs, iPad or iPhone will be sync to the same data, and can be access via any devices.

Now data on your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch will be backup daily to iCloud, so you won’t need to backup them via any PC/Macs. Data like purchased music, apps, books, camera rolls(photo & video), device settings and app data will be backup to icloud. So if we get a new iPhone, we can just key in our iTunes account ID and password, everything will be sync back to the new iPhone.

Documents on iOS devices and Macs will be able to be stored on iCloud. Not only documents can be stored on iCloud, it will be pushed to all iOS devices on the same account. It works like dropbox.

Photo Stream for all iOS and Macs!

Photo Stream is one of my favorite addition. Now everytime when I take a photo on my iPhone or iPad, it will be automatically uploaded to iCloud, which you can view on any iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Macs!

The cool thing is we not only can view, we also can save it down to the devices, like Macs. So we don’t need sync-ing virtually! Which save alot of effort! Pretty sweet. I love it! iCloud will store all photos for 30 days, and for the last 1000 photos. Of course, the copy in your devices will not be deleted.

Music can be downloaded via iTunes on up to 10 devices. So you can purchase 1 song, and redownload it up to 10 devices over the wifi. So you won’t have to sync up to copy the songs over. Pretty neat, although we in Singapore don’t really get to buy music over iTunes.

iTunes Match for iCloud

iTunes Match is a service that will “backup” your iTunes music into iCloud for all the music in your iTunes library. Of course you will think that it will take weeks to upload. No iTunes Match uses a very unique service and software that will scan your library and match all the music Apple already have in their store. They will only upload those songs that are not in their library, so it will only take minutes to upload your whole library! Pretty cool! But it is a paid service at $24.99 per year for iTunes Match.
