Tablet War – iPad vs HP TouchPad vs Xoom vs PlayBook

Tablet War – Aftermath of Smartphone

Tablet War is raging, so this is the aftermath of Smartphone War that Apple started 3 years ago. Apple have launched iPad 1 year ago, and now after 1 year, tons of tablet will be in the market in 2011!

Year 2011 is the Year of Tablet

HP just announced webOS powered TouchPad, Motorola is releasing Xoom(powered by Android) in a few months time, and BlackBerry  has plan to release PlayBook in 2011. Of course, we all know that Apple will be launching iPad 2 very soon, although we don’t have the specs yet, thus the comparison is done with Apple’s 1 year old iPad.

Check out the comparison chart by Engadget:

Honestly, before the looking at the chart, I though that it will be very unfair to compare tablets that have yet to launch with Apple’s iPad which is already 1 year old. But honestly, from a unbiased point of iPad’s hardware specs is not shy of any of the compared tablets, it is almost as powerful. Although the official price of the HP TouchPad, Blackberry PlayBook and Motorola Xoom have not been announced, but the rumored price point are same if not higher than Apple’s iPad.

Let’s wait and see the battle of tablet in time to come. Stayed tuned with UsingApple, and enjoy this war.

iPhone 4 VS Windows Phone 7

We have seen iPod Touch vs iPhone 4, so how about the up and coming Windows 7 Phone? Android and iPhone have been fighting quite some time. Let’s see how the early version of Windows Phone 7 is compared to iPhone 4.

In this video from Pocketnow, you will be able to see how different iPhone and Windows Phone 7 in Concept and behavior.

iPhone 4 vs Windows Phone 7

So after watching the video which kind of phone concept do you prefer? I think Windows Phone 7’s Concept is very new, it is something that we haven’t seen from any smartphone out there, but it is really as usable as iPhone? It is very hard to tell now.

Android VS iPhone in Comic

This comic is so hard and fast on the facts of how Android and iPhone can be compared. It is not only the OS, it is also the users who use the 2 different OS. Which group are you in now, and do you plan to change?

I love iPhone and have never planned on changing, but for tablet form factor like iPad, I will definitely consider Google’s Android as it is open, and I might be able to achieve much more on it than just plain old iPad on Apple’s iOS.

Death Grip increase Radiation Output, It happens for Google Nexus One, iPhone and Blackberry 9700

We all know that you can perform ‘Death Grip’ on your iPhone 4, and you reception will drop badly, and you might end up dropping calls. Although this issue is not really happening in countries with good reception like Singapore, but we all though ‘Death Grip’ will only affect reception. The video shown below shows that ‘Death Grip’ not only reduce your phone’s reception strength, it actually makes your phone emits more radiations and might be harmful to your health!

Why does it emits more radiation? When your phone sense that it is losing connection to its nearest cell tower, it will increase radio frequency output to try to get a better signal. It is true for most smartphone out there in the market.

Check out the video below, where the App will show you the radiation level when ‘Death Grip’ is applied on iPhone 4, Google Nexus One and Blackberry 9700.

Apple posted Droid X and Nokia N97 Mini Antenna Issues

Apple is indeed dragging everyone into the smartphone antenna hell! During Apple’s iPhone 4 Press Conference Event, Steve Jobs showed us video on how other smartphone on market now all have similar antenna issues like iPhone 4 did, they further pushed it by posting Droid X and Nokia N97 Mini video too.

Why Apple do this?

I kind of understand why Apple want to do it, imagine if you are the kid that was blamed on not passing the exam, and was punished by the world school, but the whole class did not pass the exam too, won’t you want to drag them in too? I know it is not the best example, but it is kind of what Apple is doing. But have you all realise something? No one in the world cares about how poorly Nokia, Motorola or HTC antenna did, Apple iPhone is already dominating everyone’s mind that it is only Smartphone that people care, whether how good or how bad.

This is how China Media look at Apple and Steve Jobs?

I have to admit it is funny. I’m Sorry if you don’t understand chinese, I can’t really do a translation about it to make it as funny as it is just a video created to make him look like a joke. But honestly, we know how Steve Jobs works, and how great a CEO he is. Nevertheless, it is fun to watch stuff like this sometimes ya? Sorry Steve!

Apple released 16 July iPhone 4 Press Conference Video

Apple have released their 16 July iPhone 4 Press Conference Video to the web and public! Not only that they have released video of it, they also launched new pages of iPhone 4’s Antenna and the Design and Lab Test.

Apple is very honest to the users, saying that iPhone 4’s Antenna is a physical issue and cannot be solve by Software updates, but they also let everyone know that this issue is not iPhone 4 only issue. This is a issue for lots of smartphone out in the market, not only smartphone, phone with antennas.

Apple giving out Free Case

To solve this antenna issue that got out of hand, Apple have decided to give out iPhone 4 Bumper Case/3rd Party Case to all iPhone 4 users, including those who have already bought one(they will be given full refund). This is a good news to everyone, as I am sure most iPhone users have case or at least wants to buy a case to protect their iPhone.

Apple iPhone 4 Antenna

Apple’s iPhone 4 Antenna Page, shown us how this Antenna Death Grip happens to other smartphone like BlackBerry Bold, HTC Droid Eris, Samsung Omnia II and iPhone 3GS!

Although iPhone 4’s Antenna Issue can be most easily seen due the external antenna’s design, many iPhone 4 owners report better call quality and lesser drop calls compare to iPhone 3GS.

Apple’s Antenna Design and Test Labs

Apple also show to the world their state-of-the-art facilities for their Antenna design and test labs. They looks really complex and really impressive. Honestly it reminds me of Professor X’s Cerebro.

X-Men Cerebro

Quite similar right? I can say that Apple’s Test Lab really looks very impressive, and hope that they will do a better job on their iPhone 5 and hopefully solve the Antenna Issue, which no Smartphone Manufacturer have solve.

YouTube HTML 5 Web App

Google have just launched their new YouTube Web App in HTML 5. This will ensure that any mobile phone including Apple iPhone will be able to access YouTube on their mobile, also showing Google’s support on HTML 5 as their web platform. We have seen Google’s Android supporting Flash, but the performance is not that optimized yet. So with the new YouTube HTML 5 Web App, it is going to be benefiting both iPhone and other mobile users.

To Add YouTube Web App to your Home Screen for iPhone, go to YouTube.com on your mobile safari, press the ‘+’ button on the bottom of the Mobile Safari and select “Add This to Home Screen”

Overall the feel of the YouTube Web App is very good, it is as smooth as the YouTube App that we have on our iPhone, it is even better as I feel that it will be more up to date. Search and browsing of the YouTube is very easy, you can search for video or browse the most popular video.

The video played very smoothly and honesty, I like the Web App more than the native YouTube App in iPhone, so please “download” this app! You won’t regret, you will enjoy your youtube experience more on iPhone or any other smartphone around.

More are surfing the web on Apple iPad than Google Android!

Apple iPad have surpass Google Android on Web Surfing, more are browsing the web on iPad than Android-powered devices! This is a great achievement as iPad was out in the market for only 3 months and it have gained 0.17% of all web browser traffic tracked by Net Application! Looking at the graph, it is really impressive, so does it mean that what Steve Jobs said is right? Is iPad giving the users the best web browsing experience thus gaining so much browsing share? I think he is right, else you won’t be able to see such a great jump.
