Alfred 1.0 Free in Mac App Store

Alfred is my favorite App launcher Software on Mac. In short, Alfred works like spotlight, in fact alfred is kind of like a enhanced spotlight. It is much faster and looks much more cleaner than spotlight. Alfred is actually tapping on to spotlight’s database, thus whatever you can search in spotlight, alfred can too, but quicker.

You can download Alfred for free at the Mac App Store

Summary of changes for the Mac App Store version:
* Improved performance
* Drop folders directly into search scope list
* Allow for + for space encodings in custom searches to support more site searches
* Improved look to the “Alfred should have found something” fallback result
* Update to newer Growl framework
* Improve accuracy when using double tap hotkeys, ensuring that shift doesn’t interfere
* Better URL recognition, including .local, localhost and URLs without http
* Cmd+c now copies information for the current result in Alfred’s default results (e.g. file path or URL)
* Word based matching for the ‘quit’ keyword, e.g. ‘quit chrome’ will now quit Google Chrome
* If {query} is used in a custom search’s title, no longer automatically appending {query}
* Alfred can now eject all items in /Volumes (set this in the preferences)
* Improve the ‘play’ keyword to also look at file name as well as track name
* Run “empty trash” command in the background to prevent blocking Alfred with very many trash items
* Fix subtext for iCloud synced contacts for correctly showing in Alfred
* Make the numpad “enter” key work the same as the “return” key
* Work around Lion bug where isCaseInsensitiveLike was failing for certain strings causing a hang
* Stop custom search icon from being lost when adding a second custom search with identical URL
* Fix help text on reindexing shell script, changing ‘any key’ to ‘enter’ for continue
* Update the Google Docs web search URL so that it doesn’t show the old style theme
* Fix Alfred’s default window position quirks when using a second screen with Alfred’s preferences showing
* When running .scpt files with the ‘MS Office’ experimental option selected, ensure Alfred correctly hides
* Improve defence against odd unicode character entry into Alfred search box
* Pre-compile regular expressions to improve performance
* Added defensive code for rare situations where the metadata query may be invalid / null

Evernote bought Skitch and put it free on Mac App Store!

Evernote bought Skitch and put it free on Mac App Store

This is one of the greatest news for Mac for far for the month. I love both Evernote and Skitch, and now Skitch is free on Mac App Store. How cool is that man.

Skitch is a easiest Screen shot taking App on Mac, not only that is also the easiest app to help you edit and share the screen shot! With just 1 click, you can take screen shot, with another few clicks, you can edit and upload the photo up to your server or skitch server. A very neat software which I will highly recommend any Mac users.

Here’s 60 Seconds about Skitch Video:

The ever better news is that although Evernote, my favorite note-taking app, have bought Skitch, but they will be keeping Skitch as a separate Mac App, and is free! So be sure to download the Skitch App from Mac App Store now!

Hate iPhone’s Notification? Try MobileNotifier [Video]

I hate iOS notification!

If you hate the way iPhone and iOS handle notification, you might wanna try out MobileNotifier! Many iPhone users don’t really like how iOS handle its notification, it will normally stop what you are doing, and take over the whole screen… Which is quite irritating, if you someone who have alot of Facebook Notification and SMS, and if you are playing game it is even worse… The game will virtually be a 5 seconds per pause game.

MobileNotifier a new way of Notification on iOS

Peter Hajas, created a version of how he thinks iOS notification should be handled. Of course only Jailbroken iPhones can enjoy the notification, and it is FREE! Add this repo: http://phajas.xen.prgmr.com/repo in Cydia and download MobileNotifier and enjoy it.

To know what MobileNotifier does, check out his demo video below:

Warner Brothers sell movies as App in App Store!

By Passing the Apple’s iTunes Store Restrictions with Warner Brother’s App

One issue about Apple’s iTunes Store is that it is not available in all countries, so countries like Singapore, we can’t buy music or movies from Apple’s iTunes Store. So Warner Brothers thought of a very good idea, to sell their movies as an App! Lucky for us, App Store is available in almost all countries that have iPhones or iPad. Thus users won’t have any issue buying the app and stream the movie instead!

Free for download, in-app purchase to buy the movie

Currently only Inception and Dark Knight are available for download, but the apps not only stream, it also allows you to download the full video which you can watch without internet connectivity. What’s more is that they even included extras, trivia, social sharing features and sound tracks! Very cool har? What even better is that the Apps are actually FREE, so you can download the app for free, watch a 5mins preview and decide if you want to buy the Movie or not. If you wish to buy, you can do so with the in-app purchase which will cost you USD11.99 for Inception and USD 9.99 for Dark Knight.

Mac App Store is now Open!

Yes! The Apple’s Mac App Store is finally up! If you haven’t do your System Update, go to Your Apple Icon, click on Software Updates, and you will be able to get Mac App Store installed. Of course, Apple pushed Mac App Store as a Software Update on the OS Level, so you will need to do a reboot after installation.

After you are done, I’m sure you will be spending hours in the store, looking for good free apps, and great paid apps yeah? Currently Angry Birds is already the top paid App in Mac App Store. I’m really wondering… Why people still wanna play Angry Birds on their Mac when they already have iPhone and iPad! Nevertheless, it is now the top app.

The top free app on Mac App Store is Twitter currently. It looks and feel exactly like Tweetie,  so you all will be able to download and install it now with ease.

Overall, I had a great first-hand experience with Mac App Store, it is the usual clean, fast and easy to navigate app store experience. I’m able to quickly download games, twitter and many other apps on it and it is really the easiest way to install App on Mac. And Honestly, it will be the easiest way to spend lots of money on them!

There are quite a large collection of apps/software in there, like Evernote, Apple’s iWorks and iLife, lots of games that we are very familiar, for eg Flight Control HD, Tori Tori and Angry Birds.

So what are you waiting for? Update your Mac now and get App Store running, and start spend some money! Haha!
