Apple updated Time Capsules to 3TB

The long awaited refresh for Time Capsules and Airport Extreme is finally here. But it was a disappointing one. Apple only added 1TB more on the new Time Capsule, nothing else has been change. Airport Extreme have no changes at all, not even price. This is one of my most disappointed refresh ever.

Time Capsule and Airport Extreme have been around for quite some time. I thought if Apple have nothing to update on the 2 accessories, they should have reduce the price as network technology from Airport Extreme is not the newest anymore. So I assume producing it will be much cheaper over time too.

Nevertheless, if you are interested in purchasing a new Time Capsule, you now can buy the 3TB Time Capsule at USD$499.

Steve Jobs is expanding Apple to house 12k in a Mothership shape campus [Video]

Steve Jobs is expanding Apple’s existing Campus to house his ever growing team. Current Apple Campus can only house 2-3 thousand employee, but it really not enough. Thus Apple will be building a new campus to house their employees. The shape of the campus really look like a spaceship from the top!

Steve Jobs is just magical

Pretty cool, what is even cool is Steve Jobs trying to explain to the Cupertino City Council Members on his plans and how it will benefit to the residents there. I have to admit, he is good, the whole council sounds like they are all fan boys! The way he sell his building is as good as how he sells us his iPad!

Very interesting video, check it out!

Key facts about the new Apple campus from Techcrunch:

  • Design will include a courtyard in the middle and curved glass all the way around.
  • Jobs is planning on transforming an area that’s 20% landscaping to 80% landscaping by putting most of the building’s parking underground.
  • There are 3,700 trees in the area at the moment, Jobs has hired an arborist from Stanford to take the area up to 6,000 trees.
  • The plan is to build a four-story high building and four-story parking structure.
  • The campus will incude an energy center, and natural gas will be the primary source of power, using the grid as backup.
  • There will be an auditorium, fitness center and some R & D buildings.
  • Jobs plans a 40% increase in Apple employees going from 9,500 today to 13, 000 in 2015.
  • He wants to increase the campus’ space 20% from 2.6 million to 3.1 million square feet.
  • Landscaping will increase 60% from 3,700 to 6,000.
  • Surface parking will decrease 90% from 9,800 to 1,200 .
  • The building footprint will decrease 30% from 1.4 million to 1 million.
  • Cafeterias will fit 3,000 people at a sitting.
  • The whole building will be designed with the utmost concern for employee safety.
  • Apple currently has 20 buses running on bio-diesel fuel for its employees and Jobs thinks that system will work well with the new campus.
  • The plan for the new design will submitted asap, and Jobs hopes to break ground next year and move in 2015.

Steve Jobs will be at WWDC annoucing iCloud, iOS 5 and Lion on June 6

Steve Jobs announcing iCloud in WWDC 2011

Apple has just announced that their CEO, Steve Jobs will be taking the stage to talk about their new iCloud Service, iOS 5 and Mac OS Lion. Below is what they have sent to developers:

Apple® CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS® X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch®; and iCloud®, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering.

Pretty packed WWDC 2011 for Apple. But why did Apple announce to the whole world about iCloud just a few days away from WWDC? Apple is always secretive and like to give us surprises. So are we going to get even more surprises from Apple?

Predication for Apple’s WWDC 2011

iCloud will be Apple’s newest cloud service, which might comprise of iTunes Cloud Streaming, iDisk(or a possible rename?), Cloud App Syncing, Monthly iTunes music Subscription. Apple has been building this massive Datacenter, which will most likely be supporting iCloud. So with such a huge cloud datacenter, it will not just be iTunes, I have a feeling it will be much more.

  • Monthly Music Subscription – Users will be able to pay a monthly fee and have music as all-you-can-listen package
  • iTunes Cloud Streaming – Users’ existing music will be automatically upload to the iTunes Cloud
  • iDisk fully integrated in Mac and iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. So files can just be transfer via iCloud without going through 3rd party apps
  • App syncing – All Apps that users purchase will be stored in the cloud, but not only that. All the save games data, information will be stored in cloud thus be able to sync up throughout all the devices sign in with the same account

Above are just some prediction, and hopefully we get even more surprises from Apple! Stay Tuned and we will be reporting about WWDC 2011.

Explosion at Foxconn’s Apple iPad 2 Plant

Exploision at Apple's iPad 2 Plant in China

An Explosion happened at Foxconn’s Chengdu Manufacturing Plant, this plant is where Apple’s iPad 2 is made. It is reported that the explosion happened inside an “operation room”, but we are not sure what do they do in the room.

There’s no confirmation on what cause the explosion, and how many casualties, but more than 10 fire engines, ambulances and police car were seen.

The factory is now sealed off by police, and no reporters are allowed to go near the plant as it is still not safe, and might have a possibility for a second explosion.

Hopefully no one is seriously injured, and hopefully no death.

Check out the video of explosion scene:

Apple repairs damaged devices in Japan Disasters for free!

Remember when Japan was hit with Tsunami, Apple Japan changed their main page to dedicate to the victims and did not display their newly launched iPad 2. Later on they help raise funds through iTunes for Red Cross, let victims charge their iPads and iPhones in the store and even let them surf web with their WiFi and even their Macs in stores.

Lots of respect to Apple Japan in organizing so much for the victims of Japan Disasters, and no they did not stop. Now they are offering free repairs to damaged devices from Apple at no cost for all victims of the Tsunami. Honestly this news touched my heart and I love them even more for the effort that they put in.

2011 iMacs impossible to upgrade your own hard drive

Upgrading parts in iMacs

Upgrading hard drive and ram are never easy on iMac, as iMac is just a power-packed machine with large screen. Thus everything is just packed so tightly and neat. But 2011 iMacs make upgrading Hard disk in your iMac even harder as Apple have change the SATA connector from a 4-pins to a 7-pins. This helps Apple’s firmware to control the fans for the drive temperature, but due to that when you upgrade hard disk yourselve, the disk will spin out of control, as the firmware will not control the fan speed anymore.

So plan your purchase when you are buying your next iMac. 🙂

Fox news reports about Apple’s New Data Center [Video]

So is Apple really going to compete in streaming movie service? Many of us are just plain curious what is Apple planning to do which such a huge datacenter when they are really mainly selling hardwares like Macs, iPhones and iPad.

It is rumored that they want to go into movie/TV Streaming service like Netflix which are leading in US market right now. We have no idea, but a company like Apple with so much cash on hand, they can really walk in to any market right now and just dominate.

Check out the report by Fox News:

It sounds like they are building iPad on 1994 [Video]

Ideas don’t just come to us overnight. It seems like people have been looking at tablets even during 1994, and what they have been designing sounds very similar to what we have now in our iPad.

Of course we know that Steve Jobs has been wanting to build iPad from the first day he starts his company, but technology is just now there. All computers are just too bulky and no way to pack them into such a slim device like iPad.  But it is just pure amazing that people has been toying around the idea for so long.
