Apple TV is now cheaper in Amazon and they have named it Apple TV 2010 Model. Amazon normally have some clues when it comes to Apple’s product updates. So with this movement of dropping Apple TV price and renaming it to 2010 model, does it means that we might be getting a new Apple TV very soon? I have been waiting for Apple TV refresh for quite some time, Although Apple TV 2010 Model is not sold in Singapore, but there is just more and more reasons for getting Apple TV. One of them is AirPlay, which you can mirror everything from your iPad/iPhone to your big screen in your living room. In the recent Steve Jobs Biography, he mentioned that he cracked how TV should work, I really can’t wait for the product that he cracked to be out.

Steve Jobs used to say that Apple TV is a hobby for him. Something that he is still exploring, something there will not make him big bucks if you want to put it in a business sense. But I feel that Apple is slowly treating Apple TV as a serious hobby, not just a hobby. Reasons why Apple TV is a serious hobby now: Mirroring/AirPlay – iPhone and iPad has been 2 very successful product in recent years, and I think almost every house hold should at least have an iPad or iPhone. Having the ability to mirror whatever that is on your iPhone or iPad is going to be a big deal. Imagine the shows that you watch during your bus ride, or the photo you took on your way home. You can just flash it on the big screen TV you have in your living room! iTunes rental – Having the ability to rent any movie on your crouch is a very temping thing to have on your TV. You have that on your Apple TV Netflix – Although Netflix is only available in US now.
Reasons why Apple TV is a serious hobby now:

Mirroring/AirPlay – iPhone and iPad has been 2 very successful product in recent years, and I think almost every house hold should at least have an iPad or iPhone.

You have that on your Apple TV

Netflix – Although Netflix is only available in US now.

Bluetooth support – Although it has yet to be announced, but having bluetooth supports, means you will be able to hook up keyboard and mouse/trackpad. You might be able to use Apple TV as a browser in future.

FaceTime HD Support via iPad/iPhone – Guys over at 9to5mac and TiPb did a FaceTime and AirPlay it over to their big screen TV. How awesome is that?

Price – Apple TV pricing at just USD$99 is a impulse buy product, although the features and function it has now are limited, but for just $99. You now can stream movies, rent drama series, see photo from your iPhone and continue the show you are watching on your iPad on your big screen TV. It is a must have product!

I’m very excited for the coming Apple TV generation 3, I’m sure it will support 1080p and who knows what will be install for us!

Stream games from iPad/iPhone to your AppleTV via Wifi on iOS 5 Great news to all gamers! Firemint, the creator of Real Racing 2 will be supporting AirPlay over Wifi with iOS 5. Meaning you will be able to play your game on your iPad, but view the screen on your HDTV, not your iPad/iPhone! What makes it even better is that Real Racing will not just mirror the output from iPad to HDTV, but make full use of the dual screen that you have. It will be similar to the picture on top, having the racing on your HDTV, but supporting information like maps, laps and timing on your iPad/iPhone screen. Apple marching into the gaming industry, Strong. Pretty cool right? I mean it is awesome! It kinda of reminds me of Nintendo’s DS, which have 2 screen showing supporting information. But imagine this on your HDTV and iPad. Actually now, you are already able to play this dual screen game, but you will need to hook up your iPad with HDMI cable to your TV to do it.

Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD with AirPlay is a game-changer

Relish Real Racing 2 HD’s superb visuals as they’re streamed effortlessly to your big screen TV. Grip your iPad 2 and steer with unerring precision and the freedom of wireless play. Stay closer than ever to the track with real-time racing telemetry, displayed directly on your iPad’s screen.

Honestly. I think consoles like Sony PS3, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will now have a new challenger in the market. I can’t believe that our multi-functional iPad, which I use to check emails and surf web on the go, can be my console when I reach home!

I’m sure lots of iPad/iPhone and Apple TV owners have been enjoying the AirPlay feature which came with iOS 4.2 update. With iOS 4.2, iPad/iPhone and AppleTV, you will be able to stream what is playing on your iPad/iPhone to your AppleTV and continue watching. This is a very cool feature as you can have a seamless playback process after you reach home, you can continue watching your favorite show while you are on the way back home. But what if I want to watch it on my Mac Mini/Macs and not my Apple TV. You cant, but now you can as Erica Sadun have written an AirPlayer application for Mac! Check out the demo video: You can download the AirPlayer.app here.

Apple have confirmed that there will be an Event on 20th October 2010 call Back to the Mac. Of course from the event name itself, we can tell it will be focusing on Mac. So what will be refresh this time round? We all know most of Mac’s product line has been refreshed this year or late last year, they are Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini and even Apple TV if you count it in. So what product is not refresh? Of Course it is Macbook Air! We haven’t seen any updates to Air for quite a while, and it might be time for an update before christmas. But look at the picture of the Event, Lion. Yes, a new OS should be coming to us soon. I won’t be surprise to also see iLife to be updated together with Mac OS as iLife haven’t receive any updates for almost 2 years. It will be a very cool update I suppose else we won’t have to wait for 2 years for it! So Stay tuned for more information on the Apple Back to the Mac Event, and we will be blogging about it!

So is Green Pois0n really coming on 10/10/2010? Joshua Hill aka p0sixninja tweeted saying that Green Posi0n will be available on 10/10/2010 at 10:10:10am! What a nice date to release the highly anticipated jailbreak! It is reported that the jailbreak is using the SHAtter exploit and will be working on iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod Touch and Apple TV! Stay tuned for more information, although I won’t be in Singapore during that time…

Just hours after Apple TV shipped out of Apple’s Warehouse, it has been jailbroken yet again by iPhone Dev Team! In fact, it only took them 5 hours to successfully jailbreak and shoot the below video. We all know that new Apple TV do not have any storage and only supports streaming rental from Apple. But what we also know is that Apple TV is running on iOS 4.1. It has 8GB of internal Storages, with 256mb of ram and runs on Apple’s A4 Processor, to be honest, the specifications looks like a 8GB iPhone 3GS with a new A4 Processor. We have seen in the previous Apple TV Review and saw that Apple TV play 720p very smoothly. Quite impress with Apple’s Streaming Service as they are quite new in this field. Nevertheless, a jailbroken Apple TV means there will be countless of hacks, Custom Codec to play all formats of video? 1080p output? iOS App supports? Emulators? External Hard Disk Support? Who knows what will be coming, but we are very excited!
