Lots of features we wish iPhone have, lots of features are coming to iPhone 4.0. With multi-tasking, custom wall-paper(background),
Finally multi-tasking is coming to iPhone. Android, Palm and blackberry already have multi-tasking on their phones, so iPhone is one of the slowest to come with multi-task. But Steve Jobs promise they will be the best with multi-tasking. Not draining more battery or making the phone slow. How can they do that?
They will be limiting the services that can do multi-task, 7 to be exact.
- Background music – Able to play music in background like iPod, Apps like Pandora, Streaming Radio
- Background VOIP – Able to receive VOIP calls even if iPhone is slept or locked.
- Background location – Able to track your location in the background
- Push Notification – We already have this with iPhone 3.0
- Local Notification – Like Push notification, but all local, without any server or network. Works like alarm clock, or reminder service
- Task completion – Task that takes some time to complete, user can be notify after the task is completed, eg uploading photo
- Fast App Switching – Switch between Apps fast!
Folders
Able to put Apps into folders! Now you can have Games Folders, Document Folders, Location Apps Folders and stuff like that! How cool is that? There is less and less reasons to jailbreak.. It seems like they are bringing all of them in!
Due to the folders structure, we can now put more, I mean ALOT more Apps in iPhone now. 2160 Apps to be exact, and it is alot. Who really have so many Apps? Haha. I don’t think you can ever complain about no Pages for Apps anymore.
New features for Mail:
- Unified Inbox – All your account’s mail will be in 1 mailbox
- Multiple Exchange Accounts – Support more exchange accounts
- Fast inbox switching
- Threaded messages
- Open Attachment with Apps – Able to open attachments in mail!
iBooks
iBooks is coming to iPhone, yes reading on iPhone might not be as good an experience as on iPad. But it is still a fairly good device to use with you don’t have your iPad with you! And yes, iBookStore is coming to iPhone too. Now you can buy books on iPad and read them on iPhone.
Enterprise
Enterprise new Features:
- Better data Protection
- Mobile Device Managements
- Wireless Apps Distribution
- Multiple Exchange Accounts
- Exchange Server 2010
- SSL VPN Support
Game Preview
Now iPhone/iPad’s game will have social interactions. Features:
- Invites – Inviting friends will be easy
- Leaderboard
- Match Making
- Achievements
iAd
Bring Mobile Ads to iPhone all the way integrated to iPhone OS level.
Steve Jobs mentioned that alot of Ads ain’t beauty, and users don’t click on them because it will most likely bring them out of the Apps. iAds will be fully integrated into iPhone OS level. Thus Ads and Apps will run seamlessly.
Apple will be hosting the Ads and developers get to keep 60% of the revenue. Quite cool ya. Especially when you look at how the Ads looks like on iAds. It is amazing, it really don’t even look like an Ad.
When?
Now, you can download iPhone 4.0 SDK to test it! Go to developer.apple.com to download a version of the latest iPhone OS 4.0
Who and which will get iPhone 4.0?
iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Gen will have FULL support on iPhone 4.0, meaning all the features announced today will be on them. But for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd Gen, most of features will be on, other than things like multi-tasking which will be resource heavy. (SAD)
When will it be on my iPhone?
How about iPad?
Overall, I think iPhone 4.0 has a lot of cool and interesting plus wanted features that users have been waiting for. Features like multi-tasking(only 3GS and 3rd Gen iPod), and folders are welcomed!
Thanks Apple for coming out with such a good sets of updates, even so soon after the launch of iPad.
